Grand Forks Fire/Rescue presents

Firebells And Fanfare 2010

July 31 - August 1, 2010

Grand Forks Fire/Rescue is hosting Firebells and Fanfare, a gathering of antique firefighting apparatus from around the Pacific Northwest, on the August Long Weekend this summer. The event will coincide with Grand Forks' downtown businesses Moonlight Madness (Friday night) and our annual Ladder-a-thon fundraiser, and continue through the weekend.

This will be the tenth year we have held the Ladder-a-thon, an annual event which has raised funds for cancer research, the food bank, and restoration of our antique fire engines. This event is always held on the BC Day long weekend.

We have well over 30 confirmed apparatus which will be in the parade and on display downtown, ranging from the 1860's to a brand-new 2010 truck. Of course, we'll have our 1901 Waterous Steam Pumper, 1929 Chevrolet Engine (Grand Forks' first motorized unit), 1944 Bickle/Seagrave Engine, and our 1957 International Engine. Victoria will be bringing their 1899 Waterous Steam Pumper, two years older than ours but fully functional, and we have teams of Clydesdales coming to pull both Steam Pumpers in the parade on Saturday morning.

All of the antiques will be on display on Market Avenue on Saturday afternoon, and set up in City Park mid-day Sunday. Some of the units at City Park will be set up to perform pumping demonstrations, including the Victoria Steam Pumper.

A full weekend program will be inserted in the July 28th Grand Forks Gazette.
